R650 000 P.A. – All relocation and immigration costs covered
We have been engaged by a major Canadian mining company to recruit an Engineer or Geologist to head up a large ongoing underground water inflow control project. This key position is accountable for the management, direction and continuous improvement of the Water Inflow Control operations with an operating budget of R250 mil ($43 million CAD) and a total staff of 5 direct and 200 indirect employees reporting to you. The primary thrust of the position is to direct the activities of the company’s contractors and consultants that are required to safely and efficiently control the inflow into the mine and develop the plan to shut off the water from surface or underground. The mine depth is approximately 4000 feet.
The position requires an experienced Mining professional with extensive project management background, strong communication skills coupled exceptional leadership abilities. A background in mine development, mine construction, mechanical maintenance, electrical and instrumentation maintenance is ideal. Additional knowledge in surface drilling, underground drilling, grouting and back-filling will be of great value in this position. The work will involve the management and coordination of all water inflow control operations at the mine site. It will require an individual with strong technical leadership and communication skills to work with technical people and direct their activities.
Reporting to you will be a Projects Coordinator, Inflow Operations and Maintenance Supervisor, Surface Inflow Control Coordinator, Inflow Electrical Supervisor, and Underground Inflow Contractor Coordinator as well as some 200 outside contractors.
Other responsibilities of the position will be:
• To ensure that safety standards in all areas of responsibility are maintained and improved by participating in all aspects of the safety program.
• Develop, implement, and manage programs to control and reduce the water inflow.. This consists of five broad activities: locate and access all inflows, catch all the incoming water and pump it to surface, backfill the area to stabilize it, and finally, shut off the inflows.
• Contribute to Company’s market position as a low cost producing mine by controlling and reducing the water inflow in the most cost-effective manner.
• Maintain budgetary control of all aspects of the water inflow area.
• Ensure continued personal development of managerial and technical skills by participating in appropriate training programs and activities.
• Ensure that all environmental laws and regulations are met.
